Land Rights

When do political conflicts turn into violent conflicts? When do land rights abuses lead to political instability and amount to a threat to regional and international peace and security? Where lands have been nationalised without recognition for the customary and tribal rights, tensions over ownership, use and management of lands are inevitable. The CHRC has formed a research group on land rights to examine and offer consultancy on such issues. Members of the research group on land and human rights include: Siraj Sait, Sally Holt and Jeremie Gilbert.
Sally Holt recently co-authored with John W. Bruce The Quick Guide to Land and Conflict Prevention (Initiative on Quiet Diplomacy).
